Questions:

1. Choose 2 vocabulary words and look up their definitions in a dictionary. Find the definition that most closely matches how each word is used in the book. Copy the definitions into your journal, and underline the word. Identify which dictionary you used. Write sentences for each word that shows you know what it means. Underline the vocabulary word in each sentence.

2. The narrator relates that upon arriving at boarding school, “I remember thinking that they had removed from us everything we owned. But I was wrong. There was still one more thing to be taken.” What was that, and why was it so important? (3 to 4 sentences)

3. The narrator writes on p. 26. “I was stubborn in ways the teachers could not see.” What is he referring to, and why was he so stubborn about this? (3 to 4 sentences)

4. On the map provided, locate and neatly label the Navajo reservation, Japan, the Pacific Ocean, and Pearl Harbor.
